Accio Interesting Blog Post!

Well little bloggie you’ve certainly been neglected! (haha i wrote this post earlier this summer in like July
keep that in mind!)
Oof I’ve been so busy this summer like you can’t believe! Really a lot of it has to do with working on my portfolio for colleges and the AP board next year and looking at colleges… Yikes! In addition to finishing a commissioned watercolor for someone (which is getting really boring btw). And i just finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which was extremely intense but overall an interesting read.
So no new art at the moment, but I do have a bunch of new(er) stuff up on my deviantart page: randompandemonium.deviantart.com : from this school year if you want to take a peek.
Hmm let’s see… Lifewise been totally busy and a bit stressed but that’s not important!
Basically this is an update to this blog to say it’s not dead! I can’t think of anything else to write right now so I’ll share a bit about my recent vacation.
ohhhhhh not just any vacation. I did go to florida to the beach for a bit but i DID get to visit the wizarding world of Harry Potter in Orlando! It was AMAZING! I am THE biggest Harry Potter fan so I enjoyed every living moment I was there. Unfortunately my camera died so I can’t show all of my pictures at the moment but I can show some. But whether you read the rest of this or not, if you are a minor fan or a HUGELYGINORMOUS fan who wears their Gryffindor scarf with pride even in the heat of July you must make the pilgrimage to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando; Hereafter known as TWWoHPiO or The Harry Potter Park. Oh! And I will be going into detail so if you don’t want to be spoiled much, just skim ![]()
So, last year the family vacation happened to be to florida as well (this rarely happens when we go the same place twice in a row) and we did go to Universal Studios in Orlando. I had fun at the park then, as it had some good rollercoasters and THE shortest lines you have ever seen in your entire life. Actually the park was so empty that we (my cousin and my brother and I) went on the Hulk rollercoaster (awesomeness) and then road Dueling Dragons (which is now the Harry Potter Dragon Challenge) four times in a row! We would have ridden it fifth time, but my brother has some motionsickness issues
Actually if we had ridden it a fifth time I probably would have puked my stomach out my mouth too! But that’s not important, is it? Okay, so last year when i was there I freaked out when i saw this:
And I was really bummed that I had visited the park a year too early. BUT THEN

intervened and I was able to come this year. The actual trip this year was a trip to the beach (Atlantic side, no oil for me thankYOU) and then we at the last minute decided to round off the trip with a visit to the Harry Potter theme park. And when i found out that last minute decision i was BEYOND excited!
Long story short, I have been a fan of the Harry Potter fan since I was in the first grade. In fourth grade my teacher had a lot of trouble convincing me that there were any other good books worth reading. I have re-read all of the books at least once with the exception of Deathly Hallows which I have only read once. I own all of the movies and for the most part love them and the games are fun too. But truly I am a HUUUGE fan of the books. I have been a MuggleCast listener for a long time (Since the ‘Pickles’ episode actually) and have recently been able to listen to them again recently while I work. I know every song from A Very Potter Musical and yes there might happen to be some fanart in my DeviantArt archives So basically Harry Potter was a big part of my childhood and I still adore it.
And the trip to the park this year did not disappoint! Overall, I was THRILLED by the overall look, the rides and attention to detail!
hopefully later i will get to this and post pictures and talk about the trip!
haha but in short I’M NOT DEAD! yay!
P.S. It should be noted that I was basically on a Harry Potter high for a really long time after I got back from orlando!
Tumblr? Really? Yep :)

As of last night really. Traditionally artists keep images that inspire them, and this is my way of keeping track of ones that inspire me. It’s really mostly art that I find interesting but here you are: http://randompandemonium.tumblr.com/
Really not planning on making it into a labor of love; it’s really gonna be more of a storage place. Exciting, huh? kidding kidding
Street Art at its BEST
28 Nov 2009 2 Comments
Hello blog that i try not to neglect!! Hope everyone had a great turkey day!
I have always had this HUGE fascination with street art. I mean, not only are these artists AMAZINGLY talented, they’re also totally badass!
Some would say that it’s stupid to engage in street art/graffiti, but I’m totally for it! How awesome would it be if every building in your hometown was covered in personal-expression and color? I know it’s not to everyone’s taste, but it is very entertaining to look at! ![]()

And if you haven’t heard of BANKSY definitely look him/her/it up!
*you’ll thank me later
Here’s some of his stuff

Seriously, look him/her/it up. Banksy is anonymous and sharing his message with the world. And i happen to love it!
What do you think of street art? Do you support it? Care to share your favorites?
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Review: Oh Won-won!

in Uncategorized Tags: Movie Review, ohnoes you're a fan, summer nonsense

As a huge harry potter nerd -the term ‘potter-head’ has never exactly agreed with me… So i prefer to simply be labeled ‘hp nerd.’- I was super-excited
for the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. HBP was one of my favorite books in the seriesbecause of the thrilling storyline, the introductions of vibrant new characters, the hints of romance, and nearly-revealed secrets. It was setting up the end of the series, which was sad and exhiliarating at the same time. Anyway, lets just say I had super-high expectations when I walked into that theatre for the first time (especially since the release date got moved!!!).
Overall, I was very happy with the way it turned out, and I really enjoyed it. I’ve heard that many people have mixed feelings about this movie. Die-hard fans either loved it or hated it (especially because of the additions made by David Yates); Non-readers felt that there was too much talking and not enough action; Critics gave glowing reviews (83% fresh); Others just loved it anyway.
Personally though, feel that this movie needs to be looked at from 2 points of view: As a movie, and as an adaptation of an excellent book, because Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is most certainly both.
I loved the overall feel of this film. It was dark, exciting, and at some points, genuinely hilarious! It matched the mood that JKR created in the original book, and the movie seemed to flow on effortlessly from the ending of OOtP.
In my opinion, I think that David Yates and the screen-writers did a really good job of capturing the essence of the book while they didn’t stick to it word for word. It would be nearly impossible to compress a 652 page book into a reasonably watchable movie without making some changes. This was one of those make-or-break factors of this movie. Fans either accepted the changes or avoided it like the plague:
What happened to the Dursleys? Cut for times’ sake. I do really like Richard Griffiths (Vernon) though, and I was sad to see that he wasn’t in this one.
What was up with the massive romance scenes between Ron and Hermione??? That’s not supposed to happen until book 7! And that is quite true my friends, but I really loved the little additions. I actually thought that there weren’t enough subtle romance moments in the actual book! (heh and i was a ron-hermione shipper from the beginning)
HELLO?! What was with the dialogue?! Though the lines in the movie didn’t match exactly to what was in the book, they got the job done. Though I was really disappointed that Snape screaming “DON’T CALL ME A COWARD!” was cut! Seriously. That would have been epic.
Where was the end battle atop the Astronomy tower? Initially I was really disappointed that there was no epic battle after Dumbledore died; But, I did a little researching, and David Heyman said that they wanted to avoid repetition because there will be plenty of fighting in Deathly Hallows.
And Dumbledore’s funeral?!? I’m really sad that the ’White Tomb’ chapter had been left out because I liked seeing a lot of the older characters making appearances, like Firenze and Umbridge; however, I do understand that that scene alone probably would have lasted at least another 5-10 minutes. But seriously, they could have done a montage or something! I did like what they did when everyone raised their wands.
And the most pressing question of all: THE WEASLEY’S HOUSE BURNING DOWN?? WTF?! I didn’t really get or like that addition much, but it did show that they weren’t even safe at home. I could have done without it, but it didn’t really bug me.
And we could go on and on: Luna found Harry and not Tonks! Continuity. We didn’t see Snape’s Patronus! Sad but for the sake of time. Where were all of the memories? It was sad that they had to cut out a bunch of them, but at least they got the key ones right! And what about the Half-Blood Prince storyline? Well, it wasn’t totally necessary to know why Snape called himself the Half-Blood Prince. If anything, it made some non-fans read the book to find out which is a GOOD thing! And etc…
But, I will admit the the cave scene was pretty kickass. Attention to detail was great (exept anyone else think that the inferi kinda resembled Gollum from LOTR? I’ve never even seen those movies and I thought that!)
Though I didn’t care for some of the changes, I felt all of the performances were really well-done! The trio as always were near-perfection. I especially thought Daniel Radcliffe under the influence of Felix Felicis was hilarious! The depressing scene when Ron breaks Hermione’s heart (the Canary/Oppugno scene) was seriously heart-breaking and well-acted! “How does it feel…?” “It feels like this.”
As for the supporting young cast, I thought they did a great job all around. Tom Felton (Draco) did well fleshing out his character a bit, because in this movie he had to be a little bit more than just mean all of the time. Though I will say his nasally delivery of “I have to do this” was a little odd. I really missed Matthew Lewis (Neville)! He’s such a sweetie and an adorable actor and he got like 3 lines! I guess I’ll just have to wait until Deathly Hallows to see the new and improved, totally badass, snake-head cutting, rebellious Neville. And where were the Phelps Twins (Fred/George)? They did not get enough screen time, sadly. But I loved the shots of Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes! They were so colorful and whimsical, just like I imagined! I have said this before, but Evanna Lynch’s (Luna) casting was spot-on! She is such a big fan of the series, and I just think that she does a great job of being Luna. It seems like she’s really into her character! I heard that she made her own lion hat for the Quidditch game! It was a little odd that they got a new actress for Katie Bell but oh well… I have never liked the character of Lavender Brown but I have to admit that Jessie Cave was ah-mazing! She and Ron actually had this goofy chemistry, and she was hilarious as the obsessed girlfriend! I especially loved when she was in the hospital wing, “See? He senses my presence! It’s okay won-won, I’m here! I’m here!”
Bonnie Wright was pretty good as Ginny Weasley as well. I was surprised that the chemistry between her and Harry (Dan Rad) worked out so well!
There was more humor in this movie, and I feel it was a welcome addition! The humor in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was well-placed, not overdone, and downright delightful. The best part? Not all of the humor came from Ron! In the past, all of the humor in the movies was delivered by Rupert Grint either in the form of physical humor or jokes in dialogue. (But I will admit that while reacting to Romilda Vane’s love potion he was hilarious!)
And though the movie does still rely on Ron-related comedy, it’s not entirely dependent on it. One of my favorite scenes was when Cormac puked on Snapes shoes, and Rickman seethes:
Well anyway, as far as casting goes, let me just say that I have always LOVED Alan Rickman as Snape! He IS Snape. He just totally embodies the essence of that greasy-haired, batlike, tortured soul. It definitely has to do with the qulity of his voice
; I mean, did you HEAR how he said, “Its. Over.” I will admit, I totally had a fangirl moment when I heard it in the trailer. Hopefully I’m not alone in this opinion, I always thought that Rickman was under-used in the previous films which was a shame. (If they leave out ‘The Prince’s Tale’ in one of the next 2 movies I will go after the person responsible with a Ginny-Weasley-worthy bat-bogey hex!)It’s nice to see Snape become more of a major character because then Rickman gets more screen-time, and people like me can drink in the performance. Plus the quality of his wig has gotten soooooo much better!

Shhhh! Let the audience see how amazing I am
While on that note, all of the adult actors in Harry Potter (or at least the majority of them) are superb actors/actresses. I happen to be a big fan of both Julie Walters (Molly Weasley) and Maggie Smith (McGonagle). David Thewlis as Lupin and Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid have their moments of brilliance as well. Ohmigod the drinking song with Hagrid and Slughorn was hilarious: “Which was saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
.”And I have a soft-spot for the DADA teachers. Imelda Staunton was horribly amazing as Umbridge and OH and dear LORD Kenneth Branaugh as Gilderoy Lockheart was perfectly hilarious! Sheer perfection!Wow, sidetracked! Back to the new movie! Jim Broadbent (recognize him from Moulin Rouge, anyone?) as Slughorn was a great add to an already stellar cast.
Ah, but the biggest shock to me in this movie was how much more likeable Dumbledore was! I am still stunned that Michael Gambon was able to portray a remotely ‘huggable’ Dumbledore! In the books, Dumbledore was a force to be reckoned with but was whimsical and loving, kind of like an eccentric old grandpa who used to be in the CIA. I mean, ‘Dumbledore’ is an old devon word that means ‘bumblebee’! JKR named him so because she pictured him walking about the castle humming (buzzing) to himself. I absolutely loved the late Richard Harris’ portrayal of dear Albus in the first two movies, because he captured the loving, gentle man that he was in the first two books. After his untimely death, we (the fans) were stuck with Michael Gambon. I think I had a prejudice against him from the beginning because he said he never read the books and didn’t plan to! I couldn’t believe that he wouldn’t actually read the books so he could decode the inner workings of a complex character like Dumbledore! And so, in the fourth movie, we ended up with hippie dumbledore -complete with beard-tie -screaming “DIDYOUPUTYOURNAMEINTHEGOBLETOFFFIYAH?!” *sigh* ~KellyWormtongue of DeviantArt puts it best:
Anyway, so when in the film version of HP6 he was actually personable and all ‘Being me has its advantages’ I was floored. It looked as if Gambon actually studied his character for the first time. I applaud his performance in this film. I do think, thought that maybe if he had portrayed Dumbledore like this throughout his run in the series that I would have been at least a little sad when he died (didn’t shed a tear at the theatre).
In conclusion, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was entertaining, funny, and dark with wonderful performances all around. I missed certain details but it got the right point across. Yates deserves a hearty pat on the back too! So….
4.5/5 stars
**I just had to review this film(and this took forever)! And how fitting is it that Friday was JKR’s/Harry’s birthday?

More intuitive painting
And it’s waaaay bigger than it looks here!

I’m not quite sure why the eye was a recurring theme… but I am a firm believer that the eyes are the window to the soul.

Oh…my…goodness. I am such a HUGE Georgia O’Keeffe fan. She was so amazingly talented. If any of you are ever in the Santa Fe area, visit the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum because it has some of the most amazing art that you will ever lay eyes on! Plus, they just returned a painting that Mrs. Bush had borrowed for the White House dining room. I have to admit she has good taste in paintings.

^this one by O’Keefe was my favorite at the museum! Black Hollyhock Blue Larkspur (1930)

This is the one that my oil pastel (above) was based on. Ram’s Head, Blue Morning Glory

Just a doodle completed in the plaza
It’s not done yet, but I might make it into a T-shirt design…

Intuitive Painting1
I did an ‘intuitive painting’ class today, and this is my first painting (more to come) from that class. The point of the class was to not think at all and just go with whatever happened to be in your mind/seemed right. I’m not sure if I love it, but it came out much better than i thought it would, so that makes me happy! ![]()

My cousin’s absolute favorite princess is Ariel! She said that she was going to frame it and put it in her room
I’ve promised her older sister a similar picture but with Belle
I love my little cousins! They’re so adorable!
More Santa Fe stuff to come! What do you think so far?

Okay, anyway, some of you may be wondering, wtf
is a meme? Well, I will tell you: A meme is basically a quiz that you fill out with pictures. They are usually insanely goofy and wacky, and they almost always involve some kind of fandom. In the spirit of the new Harry Potter movie (OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG) I have decided to post my old Harry Potter meme from last year…most of it was completed in english haha. Bear with me, this is certified ANCIENT art! haha enjoy ![]()

Ah. Thankyou OneNote! ![]()
This is my most recent meme and it proves A) That finals are bad for your health and B) what a dork I am! Oh, and hopefully my art’s improved since then!

Movie Review: Angels and Demons

Above picture thanks to ~Xciell on DeviantArt
Let me just start out by saying that I am a huge fan of the original novels The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, and I am really excited
for the next thrill ride The Lost Symbol in September (go ahead, call me a heathen!
) Anyway, in my opinion, the movie adaptation of The DaVinci Code was decent, and a lot better than a lot of critics gave it credit; but I can understand how it wasn’t some people’s cup of tea. I’m not saying it’s my favorite movie EVAR but it was decent and alllllmost did the book justice.
I read Angels and Demons for the first time over the Christmas holiday, and for the lack of a better, more compelling phrase, I couldn’t put it down. I devoured every page in a way I first flew through Harry Potter. -Minor sidenote: A book really has to capture my attention for me to read like that. Seriously, required reading books can take me MONTHS
. Case(s) in point, The Awakening and Carry On, Mr. Bowditch *shudders* -Okay, back on track! We got stuck in the airport for a few hours on the way to Florida and were stranded even longer on the tarmac, and I finished the other 75% of the novel I had left!![]()
Haha this post was supposed to be about the movie! Okay, so now for the actual review.
Overall, I’d have to give it 3/5 stars and it’s for a number of reasons (so keep reading if you want to find out. I need to separate it into pros and cons, and also, keep in mind that this is from the perspective of a fan of the book. Oh, and for those who haven’t read the book/seen the movie yet (yes, yet!), I won’t be giving away major plot points, but this lil fella –>
will alert you of spoilers! Plus, it’ll be in white, and you’ll have to highlight it to read it properly, like so –> keep reading!
A little exposition though can’t hurt: Code-cracker and symbologist Robert Langdon has to find the 4 kidnapped Preferiti (4 most likely cardinals to be pope) who appear to have been taken by an ancient society that was horribly mistreated by the church centuries ago. This society, the Illuminati said that these four will be murdered; one every hour. Oh, and there’s a bomb in an unknown location that would completely wipe Vatican city off the face of the earth and it was stolen from Vittoria’s lab. Got it? It’s basically a major twist on the classic race-against-time story. But awesome.
It’s TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR
THE GOOD
THE BAD
AND
THE UGLY
Let’s start off with the good, shall we? What I remembered most about the DaVinci Code movie was that it was practically all talk, and when they weren’t talking, they were running. At least in Angels and Demons they finally learned how to multitask. They could run and explain at the same time! The film was decently paced, and I never found it slow (but I wasn’t on the edge of my seat either). The special effects were decent, and the music was a really great addition to the movie. Sometimes, music just seems to be stuck into a movie because it’s “supposed to be there”. Ewan McGregor was surprisingly convincing as the camerlengo, but that could have been because my expectations were kind of low to begin with. Stellan Skarsgard was totally badass in a powerhouse performance that the other actors should be jealous of. The lighting was also very well done… though the general public doesn’t tend to care much about that, haha! Also, since there were so many changes made in the film that differed from the book, it kept my interest because I wasn’t sure how much they were going to change it.
I was really happy with one of the changes especially. I was glad that 1/4 preferiti was allowed to survive in the movie. Plus, it was my favorite one! When reading the book, I was really rooting for him and hoped he’d survive…. but he, uh… didn’t. So this was a nice surprise for me
end spoilers!
The BAAAAAAAAAAAAAD. I wanted to keep this post mainly positive, so I’ll only bring attention to the major problems.

O RLY?
MAJOR PROBLEM #1 – The Hassassin could not instill fear in my heart. He wasn’t scary at all! It is my firm belief that he probably wouldn’t even be capable of scaring a bunny. I mean, at least Silas was creepy! Plus he believed what he was doing was the right thing! He even killed a nun, and his own ‘father’! And he had a tragic side to him (“I am a ghost”). The movie turned the Hassassin into a flat character who was just ‘ doing his job.’ In the book, he actually tried to kill Langdon and Vittoria on several occasions!
The scariest bit was when he kidnapped Vittoria, but they left that out!!
Villains (or in the this case the people who do their dirty work) should be more than just mildly repulsive!
MAJOR PROBLEM #2 : We’re late again! In the book, they road to rescuing one of the preferiti was action packed, and there were obstacles that had to be overcome. The plot was soooo overly simplified in the movie that each time they arrived at the church they were just late. No struggle, no nothing.
MAJOR PROBLEM #3: Zip Rob/Vittoria chemistry. In the book, they had more time to build a relationship with each other, which added another interesting facet to an already intriguing plot. I guess that it was toned down because in the movie, Vittoria and Robert only have a short few hours together. It may have seemed like a good move, but the filmakers only ended up making Vittoria seem more distant and unrelatable.
MAJOREST OF THE MAJOR PROBLEM #4: Why take out the action that was already there? Especially if you have the budget/special effects to do them? They pulled an ‘Opposite Hollywood’ on us this time, fellow viewers! Most of the time, hollywood movies skimp on the dialogue and skip to the action (Ahem, Transformers). In Angels and Demons many of the action sequences were taken out for unknown reasons. This would be understandable if they had only omitted a few moments, but the screenwriters neglected to keep almost any of Dan Brown’s edge-of-your-easy-chair action that was the very essence of the book.
I was expecially disappointed when only the camerlengo went up into the helicopter and Robert L. stayed firmly on the ground. Ye who have already read the book will understand what I mean by that. ![]()
Ah. And finally for THE UGLY.
DID TOM HANK’S/ROBERT LANGDON’S HAIR LOOK BETTER?
Ah, yes, this was one of the most pressing questions surrounding this movie. Why? Well to put it plainly, the mop atop his head nearly killed The DaVinci Code. People were focusing more on his hair than on the plot of the movie! So, did it look better? You be the judge.

A DaVinci Do or Don't?
Personally, I think it looks loads better in Angels!
Finally, I’d like to leave you all with this: It seems to me that these films only get a little better each time by fixing what was wrong with the last one. I can only hope that by the time the film for The Lost Symbol comes around that they will have gotten all the bugs out. I support turning books into movies, but Hollywood should learn to use the wonderful material that’s given to them.
Momentary Musings from the Masses: What did you think of the book/movie Angels and Demons?/was that an incredibly long-winded post or what?
